Service Updates

Our visit to Paula’s House on October 23rd was enjoyed by eight girls and some of their kids. Parran Greenhouse donated the pumpkins which were small and perfect for painting. We did not receive any help for community service from any girls so I really appreciated those members who volunteered to be there and help with this project. It was pretty hectic and we surely needed all the help!

We are scheduled to visit again on November 27th where Linda Rutledge (a former member) is donating her time to help them paint Christmas bulbs. Members who have signed up to help are: Katie Burroughs, Cindy Ellison and Tammi VanAken. If any of you are able to donate a healthy snack, call me. Let me know if you know any girls who need community service hours for this project. We really need someone to watch the children while their Mom’s paint. Meet at Paula’s House II on South Custer by 6:00 PM and after cleaning up we are usually out of there by 8:00 PM at the latest.

Our new member Mary VanWasshenova has made contact with Monroe High School regarding the Hope’s Closet project. The “S” Club used to be a part of this project but now it is being funded by the teachers and staff. The Middle School also needs items for the girls. Our donation to each school would be used to purchase leggings, sweatpants, socks, deodorant, toothpaste and feminine products. It appears that many girls are either living on their own of in homes that cannot supply their basic needs. The high school does offer free breakfast and allows the girls to shower there. Mary is asking for a $500 donation and she will be responsible for making the purchases.

Pam Barker has the sign up sheets for the Salvation Army Christmas with time time slots for helping with application and shopping. Please contact her as we need more members to help.

We will be continuing our annual Christmas Party at Paula’s House I in December In the past donated items from the members, such as fleece throws, head bands and mittens are appreciated. We are also considering purchasing gift cards from the club funds. Volunteers for this event provide food and cookies.

Gently used handbags for Christmas gifts for women at Paula’s House I, Hotel and cosmetic samples and bags, any unused gifts for women to use as prizes.

Thank you for any time you can volunteer for our service projects.
