On Wednesday, May 31, 2017, Soroptimist International of Monroe County, held a Membership Potluck with collaboration of the Program Committee and the Membership Committee. Twenty current members attended and we introduced six guests including the 2011 Virginia Wagner Award winner, Melissa Pearch Brasher. Melissa spoke regarding what winning the Virginia Wagner Award meant to her as well as how it helped to further her education. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Toledo and went on to obtain her Masters degree at the University of Pittsburg in orthotics and prosthetics. She kept the group mesmerized with what her degree enables her to do in creating and fitting prosthetics for a variety of disabilities. Her internships included a stint at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington DC. The other guests included Kathy Barley, Mary Vanwasshenova, Maria Zagorski, Alice Beckham, and Katie Burroughs who submitted her application that night to join our club. We welcome Katie as our newest Soroptimist member. Those women that did not join were given folders containing information regarding our club as well as an application.
We enjoyed great food that was provided by each of the members and an evening of social interaction.
We will be installing the members that have joined since Christmas at our final meeting for the fiscal year on June 21, 2017, at the lovely home of Laura Meiring at 9543 N. Stoney Creek Rd., Carleton. The evening begins at 5:30pm and we will formally install the new slate of officers as well as our newest members, Colleen Laginess, Molly McCutchan, and Katie Burroughs.
